A MESSAGE FROM AMSOIL CEO, AL AMATUZIO

With new Dealers and Preferred customers coming on board every day, I feel it’s necessary to occasionally provide a little AMSOIL history. In doing so, I am hopeful that those just beginning their AMSOIL businesses and those Preferred customers who have become loyal to our products will gain additional appreciation for the leadership role we have earned in the industry.

What many people don’t realize is that my research on synthetic motor oil began much sooner than the 1972 introduction of the original AMSOIL 10W-40. In the early-1960s, armed with the knowledge that synthetic oil was the only type of oil capable of withstandingthetremendousdemands of the engines in the jets I was flying, I reasoned why not bring that same technology to the automotive world? I was convinced it could extend the lives of automobile engines.

I submerged myself in the study of lubrication and began formulating and marketing synthetic oils of my own. After several years, thousands of hours of intense research and a variety of oils under a variety of names we ultimately created the original AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil. That oil was tested at Southwest research in San Antonio, Texas and became the first synthetic motor oil to “meet or exceed API Service Classification SE engine test targets.”

A clearly defined benchmark had been established. AMSOIL motor oil was tested, proven and documented by
a single authoritative source, and for the first time a commercially available synthetic motor oil had been officially designated for use in automobile engines. The introduction of AMSOIL synthetic motor oil in 1972 launched the synthetic motor oil market. 



Nothing good in life, however, comes easy. The major oil companies and automobile manufacturers refused to recognize the superiority of our product. They fought us every step of the way. Then gradually, things began to change. Our Dealers were making progress and other circumstances came together to advance our cause.

In 1974 when Mobil 1 was introduced, many Dealers expressed concern. They feared that with a second synthetic motor oil now on the market, our sales would suffer. I knew, however, that Mobil’s near-limitless advertising budget would ultimately work in our favor. They would spend millions to help educate the public on the benefits of synthetic oil. They did, and we grew.

It was about this time that gasoline was in short supply and prices soared. fuel economy became a major concern, and gas-guzzlers of the sixties were being replaced by morefuel-efficientcompacts. As the need among consumers to cut
fuel costs increased, our Dealers capitalized with sales of lubricants that actually did make a difference.

Another event impacted the demand for synthetics. This one more subtle, perhaps, than the Mobil 1 introduction, but significant nonetheless, especially as an indicator of where the industry was headed. In early 1991, General Motors halted sales of the corvette Zr-1. eight engines had seized at its Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant. The temperature had dipped to slightly below freezing and, at start- up, hard-to-pump motor oil did not reach the front camshaft bearings. They were destroyed by lack of lubrication. GM responded by requiring the use of synthetic oil in the corvette. It was the first time an American auto manufacturer had required, not just recommended, the use of synthetic oil as a factory-fill. It was clear to me then that GM’s decision was just the beginning. More factory-fills would follow. The door had just opened a little wider for AMSOIL Dealers.

Not long after the corvette was treated to synthetic oil, virtually all the other oil manufacturers began introducing synthetics of their own. They, like Mobil, spent millions advertising their “ground-breaking” new products. The floodgates had opened, and as awareness among consumers reached an all-time high, our sales climbed.

Today, of course, consumer awareness has never been greater, and our reputation as the industry pioneer is firmly established. The AMSOIL track record speaks for itself. We have set the standards for lubricant performance and willcontinuetopushthoseboundaries.

Where do you buy your AMSOIL?

Today's blog was inspired by a topic that I seam to be asked quite often when speaking to people about AMSOIL. 

When I am out attending car shows, race events. etc, I usually have a few people come to me and say, oh, I been using AMSOIL for some time now. Or, the total opposite, I was  using AMSOIL but I cannot find it in my local area no more. They would ask, why is it that AMSOIL is not available everywhere?

The answer to this is simple, you will never find AMSOIL in a big box store such as Wal-Mart, Pep-boys or a AutoZone type corporate store. Why is this, again the answer is quite simple, AMSOIL is distributed by independent dealers, people like you! 

How does that work, what is an Independent AMSOIL Dealer? Well, since 1972 AMSOIL CEO & Founder Mr. Al Amatuzio decided that direct selling would be the perfect fit for AMSOIL. Mr Amatuzio wanted to be sure that people understood the basic concepts, features and benefits that his synthetic oil would provide for their equipment. After building his team of Independent
dealers throughout the country he decided that it would be best not to jump into business with the big box stores. 

By doing this Mr. Amatuzio would be protecting his dealer network, their accounts and their accounts customers from the corporate politics in today's market place. Dealers could now continue to educate the small mom & pop stores and repair shops with the same product knowledge that his independent AMSOIL dealers had.... Just imagine going to the women in isle 5 at your local Walmart and asking her how long will this oil last? Maybe try the asking the kid at AutoZone what's the difference between the conventional oil and the synthetic oil. His answer would probably be, well the price is a bit more but I here it works kind of good!

With that being said, AMSOIL dealers are always looking to register new accounts to stock AMSOIL Synthetics Lubricants in their stores. Rest assure that you will always get the best lubricants for your equipment from AMSOIL and that all your
questions will be answered either by the retailer themselves or a quick phone call to their Independent AMSOIL Dealer.

This an opportunity to discuss certain AMSOIL products specific to your application and equipment. As an AMSOIL Dealer we look forward to seeing and speaking with not only new customers but helping our current customers with questions they may have as well. Weather it be motorcycle rallys, classic car shows, new car shows, tradeshows, etc stop on by the booth, there may even be some free stuff in it for you.

Who is your AMSOIL dealer?
So you are looking for AMSOIL products? The first problem that comes up is where do you find AMSOIL products? Most people looking for AMSOIL turn to the internet. They search for AMSOIL on Google or even go directly to the amsoil.com website. From
there you can enter the AMSOIL online store and  buy products directly from AMSOIL..

STOP!  ...Read Below.... 

What happens when you buy your AMSOIL products directly from AMSOIL is that you are assigned an AMSOIL Dealer. In most cases this won’t ever be a  problem, but in some cases it’s nice to know who your AMSOIL Dealer is (They are making a
commission from your sale after all). Maybe you will have a question or could have some product damage in shipment and would need to return or get a replacement. In these cases, your AMSOIL dealer can help you..


Since all AMSOIL products are sold through independent dealers and when you go to amsoil.com you are assigned a dealer (that you most like likely will not know or never meet). Therefore you should look for an AMSOIL dealers website that you would like to do business with. This could be someone you already know or are affiliated with. For instance, you frequent a certain message board or social media site and an AMSOIL dealer sponsors that board and/or has already  established a relationship with you, then it would only make sense to give that business to that dealer so they can continue to help by spending their advertising dollars with said message board/media..

Another way to find an AMSOIL dealer is to look local. Sometimes you can find a dealer in your own town. This is sometimes helpful if they stock the products you need. I’ve had customers call me that needed one or 2 quarts of something. This would help you with the shipping costs as they normally order several cases at a time. However, even locally you should be sure that your dealer is serious about his business and takes the time to explain products to you in depth. Knowledge is power, incorrect knowledge is dangerous..

Lastly you could find a serious AMSOIL dealer like myself and contact them regarding an order. A serious AMSOIL dealer has been to company training events, they are available and knowledgeable about the products and how to best serve you the customer. Finding a serious dealer could be a difficult process sometimes, as most AMSOIL dealers are “part-time”. They work
at the business in their off time..

When searching for a dealer to do business with, you can take a look at their website to find out if they are serious. Look for the “about” page as well as a“contact me” page. One thing to stay away from is a dealer website that doesn’t have their personal name or location. AMSOIL dealers are required to have on their website their name and “independent dealer” as well as where they are located.
